Sacré Cœur Basilica (Sacre Coeur Basilica)

The Sacré Cœur Basilica or “Basilica of the Sacred Heart” caused a lot of controversy in the years leading up to its beginning until almost the very end of construction. But no matter the controversy, this beautiful white Basilica is a must see when traveling to Paris. In actuality, the basilica sits so high above the city, that to catch a great overhead view of Paris, this is the best view available (outside of the Eiffel Tower, of course).
The church is constructed out of travertine stone, but the travertine is not what gives it the awesome white color. The stone happens to extrude calcite continuously which causes the brilliant white color.

Location of the Basilica:
35 rue du Chevalier de la Barre

Hours Open and Costs:
Daily from 6:00 a.m. – 11:00 p.m.
The dome and crypt are open from 9 am until 5:45 pm and will cost everyone over the age of six 5 Francs.  The rest of the church is free to visit and opens early at 6 am and stays open until 11 pm.   Because it is a functioning church, and if you feel so inclined, Catholic mass is held from 9:45 am until 10:45 am, and is free to attend.  Choir rehearsals are also available for visitors to attend freely.
